Lifesaving

South Maroubra lifesavers on the beach

Our lifesavers

Serious, but fun

Our lifesavers patrol the southern end of Maroubra Beach from September through to April on every weekend and public holiday. Patrol teams are made up of members aged 13 and up, trained in the skills, techniques and procedures for either the Surf Rescue Certificate or Bronze Medallion award.

Many members go on to gain specialised lifesaving awards, and our generous sponsors provide an extensive range of lifesaving equipment that we use every summer to protect beach users.

What we do

Keeping the beach safe

Our primary role is to protect the public visiting our beach and to make rescues where needed. We roster qualified volunteers into patrol teams so every skill is covered. Each team does about 9 patrols a season, led by a Patrol Captain and Vice Captain.

You will recognise our patrol members by the iconic Qantas sponsored uniform: red and yellow quartered cap, yellow long sleeve shirt and red shorts.

Lifesavers training in the surf

Training

Up-skill with us

Spend your days on one of Australia’s most beautiful beaches, save lives and enjoy the surf. As a lifesaver you can up-skill with courses in Advanced Resuscitation, Spinal Injury Management, Inflatable Rescue Boats and more.

Membership is invaluable, and we encourage anyone to take the plunge and find out what surf lifesaving can offer.
