About us
A volunteer club since 1959
South Maroubra Surf Life Saving Club Inc. is a voluntary organisation, established in 1959, that provides a safe beach environment at the south end of the iconic Maroubra Beach. We are affiliated with Surf Life Saving Sydney, Surf Life Saving NSW and Surf Life Saving Australia.
The club is nestled in Arthur Byrne Reserve, off Fitzgerald Ave and Bernie Kelly Drive, South Maroubra. There is a 200 plus space car park, and a bus stop just 250 metres away. We are in the Randwick City Council area.
Our management
Run by members, for members
The club is administered by a Board of Directors, elected annually by our members. The current President is Mr Paul Fownes OAM APM, an active lifesaver for over 25 years. A number of committees help the directors run the best club we can.
Proud sporting history
Olympians and champions
We have grown Olympic champions including Ronald McKeon, Jane and Natalie Saville, Malcolm Allen and Brett Hawke, and well-known lifesavers such as Samantha O’Brien and Jacquie Robinson. Major events we have hosted include:
- NSW State Championships (1985, 1996, 1999 and 2001)
- Surf Life Saving Sydney Branch and NSW Inflatable Rescue Boat Carnivals
- Kelloggs Nutri-Grain Surf League (televised nationally on Channel 9)
- Numerous Surf Life Saving Sydney Branch Championships
- Annual carnivals: South Maroubra U8s and Boats Carnival from the Sydney Branch Series
