Heroes – Mates – Team – South Maroubra SLSC Family
It has been said many times that our Nippers are ‘young lifesavers in training’.
Members of our State Nipper representative team yesterday epitomized the true meaning of what it is to be part of Surf Lifesaving and we could not be more proud.
With the permission of the boys parents, we proudly share with you all a selfless act of standing by your team mates.

On the 25 Feb 2021, during the State Age Nipper U11 Male Surf Race, our member Owen Lloyd-Jones suffered an asthma attack where he was in 2nd position. 2 of his fellow team mates Tayte Melia and Jordan Pribati saw that Owen was in trouble and assisted their mate keeping him afloat whilst alerting water safety to his predicament, forgoing any chance of personal race success.
These amazing boys may not have finished with State SLS medals, but they are champions in the true sense of the word. Be very proud of yourselves ‘young lifesavers in training’ – You have proven the success of the great Surf Education program delivered at South Maroubra and in all Clubs around the State.
We are pleased to advise that young Owen recovered from his asthma attack, and the U11 boys lined up again later in the day for the Surf Teams event and were through to the final.
The 3 boys were recognised by their whole team.
On behalf of every member of South Maroubra SLSC we thank and acknowledge these boys. This is what we are all about.
