Are you wanting to continue to enjoy the camaraderie and keeping fit in the off season? Well take the plunge and join the Dolphins Winter Swimmers. The season starts on May 2.
The South Maroubra Dolphins Winter Swimming Cub was formed at Wylies Bath in the winter months of 1960 as an off season activity for the members of South Maroubra Surf Club and are affilitated to the Winter Swimming Association of Australia. The Dolphins welcome all new members with open arms, you'll be joining swimmers aged 7 to 90, there is a place for everyone in our club. Enjoy uplifting Sunday morning fun for all the family in a range of handicapped races from 50 to 400 yards at the stunning Wylies Baths. Wylies' unique microclimate radiates sunshine and gives shelter to enjoy the water and stay swim-fit through the off-season. Regular immersion has many wellbeing benefits, as well as being the best hangover cure as voted every year by members. Come on down and enjoy the upgraded HOT SHOWERS and coffee shop, hours of hilarious discourse with many of our life members and families. Hot soup and full lunch at the club bar afterwards including meat raffle and prize draw as we socialise on the lawn and watch the whales swim by. Just come down to Wylies Baths any Sunday at 9am, we will love to see you! Check them out on Facebook!
Sunday 25 April our valuable lifesavers will complete their last patrol for season 20-21 and the red and yellow clothing will be packed away to end out a very successful season for the club.
The difficulties and changes endured of COVID has not once altered the enthusiasm and commitment of our volunteers and to each and everyone of you we say thank you for a job well done. Our community has been kept safe while enjoying our beautiful beach and surrounding areas. Our Lifesaving Services committee are to be commended for the season and due recognition of our lifesavers will be applauded at the upcoming Presentation on Saturday May 8. As we prepare this newsletter, the 2021 Aussies are drawing to an end and will conclude on Saturday 24 April. Wow what a campaign South Maroubra has had in 2021 with representation at youth, masters and open competition spread over the beautiful sunshine coast beaches. We hope you kept up to date with photos and results on the club’s Facebook page.
We must give a huge shout out and acknowledgement to our Carnival Officials - Marcelo Garay, Bob Byrne and Peter ‘ Dino’ Steenson, who have once again done a sterling job in volunteering to officiate at the Aussies. Marcelo has done the long haul from Youth through to Opens - great job guys and thank you. Our fearless leader President Paul ‘Stretch’ Fownes and Shane White have been amazing in managing the touring group. To the parents, coaches and supporters who attended Aussies and were of huge support to our dynamic team of athletes - thank you. The Aussies is huge and the pinnacle of competition, for our U14 and U15 members who competed for their very first Aussies - absolutely amazing and we certainly hope you got a lot out of this experience and we certainly look forward to the growth in this area for the future. Full results from the Aussies will be shared later, finals were made and medals were won and we are extremely proud of our team who represented South Maroubra. |
