I'd like to welcome back the returning lifesaving committee members, and welcome to our new Assistant Director of Lifesaving Services Darren Saunders and Education Coordinator Hunter Perry. A big thanks to Ben who stepped down this season as ADOL and who has recently became a new dad to a beautiful little boy. We also see Mike Fernandez step down this season from the education role after many years, thank you for all you have done. I'm glad we will still see both Ben and Mike on the beach, and remain with us as PCs. And of course a big welcome to all returning and new lifesavers.
Our lifesavers hit the beach on Saturday 18 September to kick off the season. There has been a lot of work that went into getting us on the beach this season, with the ongoing changes to Public Health Orders, but we have got there in the end. Thank you to all the lifesaving committee for your help and to the PCs for being a great conduit of information to your teams! And also to Jennie Smith who has made us some great masks to wear on patrol and around the club! We had all our PCs on over the first weekend so we could be sure to be across all the changes and procedures. It's also a great chance for us to all work with our leadership team on how we can best run patrols and keep the public safe. You will see some changes including an exclusion zone around the patrol tent. Please note that if you are not on patrol you can not come into the patrol area. And we do ask if you can help by not parking within the club area on busy weekends so that our rosters patrolling members are able to access these spots. We do hope that within the next month or so we can move back to a more 'normal' patrol and see our younger members back on the beach with us! Education We have had a few queries about when we can kick off courses. As yet we do not know but there is plenty of work going behind the scenes to ensure we are able to kick off as soon as possible. There are of course more challenges when it comes to education with regard to COVID safety with the requirement of proximity between candidates and trainers. We will be sure that we will kick off in a safe manner as soon as we can. In the meantime, if you're interested in getting your SRC or upgrading from SRC to BM be sure to add your name to our list via this form so we can get in touch! Until next month, stay well and safe. And see you all on the sand soon. Nicole Cooney Director of Lifesaving Services

First and foremost, I would like to thank and recognise Yvette Rutherford for the number of years and amount of work she has volunteered towards our great club to make South Maroubra Surf Club what it is now.
As your new Director of Finance, I have big shoes to fill-in. Yvette and I have been going through a very smooth transition process. I am very excited about this new challenge and look forward to building even further what we currently have. I would like to thank all our Office Bearers that have put their hand up to be part of our committees for season 2021/22. In particular the members of my committee, which I would like to introduce to you:
Stay safe and see you at the beach, Marcelo Dear Nipper Parents,
My name is Peter Kondilios and I am the Director of Youth for the 2021/2022 Nipper season. I am a long term member of South Maroubra Surf Club, having completed my Surf Life Saving training as a young nipper at this great club. I am so excited to be leading this year's Nipper program. Children’s community sport is my passion. I have been an Age Manager for the last 8 years at South Maroubra and am also actively involved with Maroubra Lions Football Club. My own life has been very much shaped by my association with sporting and community organisations just like South Maroubra Nippers. I am the father of 3 school aged children who are all members of South Maroubra Nippers. I am now extremely excited to have the opportunity to give back to the community that has been such a big part of my own life. The Nippers 2021/2022 season will start as soon as NSW Health advises that community sport is allowed to commence. Registrations are now open and we encourage you to register your children as numbers may be limited. How Nippers will run at South Maroubra SLSC This season, only qualified members will be able to support the delivery of the program. Trained Age Managers and Water Safety team members will help us ensure that Nippers are kept safe, both in the water and on the beach. As always we would love more people to join the team! If you are interested in finding out more in regards to attaining your Bronze Medallion, please contact [email protected]. Age Manager/Beach Crew Courses will also be running this year with dates & times to be confirmed. Be part of the fun and get involved! This season Nippers will have 2 different start times (B - Boys, G - Girls):
There will be a 15 minute gap between the 2 sessions to allow people to leave their designated areas. These times are subject to change pending Nipper registration numbers. Over the next few weeks we will provide more information on how Nippers will run. As Government restrictions change prior to season start, we will endeavour to update you on information as it becomes available. I am committed to keeping all members of the club safe and thank you for your support and understanding in these changing times. Get ready for a lot of fun and a great season at the best beach in Sydney with the best club, South Maroubra SLSC. Warm regards, Peter Kondilios Director of Youth Development We are looking forward to the new competition season for 2021/22, and we are in the midst of finalising our training program for the upcoming season. After dipping our toes in the water on what is on offer at the senior level, we are building a strong team, using the foundations that were laid in last year's breakthrough season. We are looking for enthusiastic members who wish to represent OUR GREAT CLUB at the various carnivals on offer throughout the season.
As with most things nowadays, we are hamstrung by the Public Health Order. There are exercise sessions currently being co-ordinated by our coaches for both water and sand competitors. Our water competitors have been putting in some effort for the last two weeks. The sessions available at this time are focused on board (but please come prepared for a swim also). We will offer a ski program if there is interest. At the time of writing, we can offer a 9.30am Sunday morning session and a Wednesday session at 4.15pm. Location of the sessions will depend on the surf conditions. As we progress through the season, and we have more daylight to work with, we will look at running sessions most weekday afternoons. Our sand competitors have two sessions for seniors/masters with our Head Coach (Beach) Andy Newrick at 5pm on Tuesday/ Thursday at South Maroubra. For our nippers, unfortunately we are unable to run sessions at this time due to the public health order. As soon as that restriction is lifted, we will be ready to go. The session times are likely to be similar to what they have been in previous seasons and will be confirmed once we know what parameters we can work with. We look forward to seeing you all on the beach soon. We are South Bra. Marty Kieran The 63rd AGM of the Club was finally held on 28 August for the first time over Zoom due to COVID restrictions. We were delighted to have an array of special guests join the meeting including our Life Patron Bob Carr, Michael Daley Club Patron, Matt Thistlethwaite MP, Randwick City Councilors and Life Members.
Numerous special guests and members called out Yvette Rutherford's contribution to the board over the last 28 years and we will honour her in person when Health Orders allow. Unfortunately we were unable to physically present Gus Taylor with his blazer as is tradition, however we are looking forward to doing so when restrictions lift. Carl Briscoe was voted unanimously for receiving the Honour Blazer this year. The elected Board of Management (BOM) are: President - Paul Fownes Vice President - Linda Perrin Hon Secretary - Uri Teitler Director of Finance - Marcelo Garay Director of Lifesaving Services - Nicole Cooney Director of Competition - Shane White Director of Youth Development - Peter Kondilios We would like to congratulate the BOM and all elected Office Bearers for the coming season, contact details are available on the website. Regards, Board of Management South Maroubra Surf Life Saving Club With the help of the 3-Council Solar my Club program we have now completed the installation of a solar power system on the Club’s rooftop that will produce clean green energy on site for facilities. It’s an important way we can help reduce our carbon footprint, save on energy bills and also maybe encourage our members and patrons to install solar power on their own properties. The Solar my Club team helped make the solar process easy as well as get external grants to help pay for the system! Thanks to the generous financial contributions of Clovelly Community Bank, NSW Community Building Partnerships, Resinc Solar and Randwick Council.
